Biarritz
October 28, 2011
Biarritz has one of the best seaside walks in France. Start your stroll at the Lighthouse on the headland and it takes you past a golf course and the Russian Orthodox church with it’s blue dome. Continue along the old Promenade passing by the Casino Barriere which has an interesting art deco floor and ceiling. Next point would be the Place St Eugenie a nice square for a bit of quiet.
The Museum of the Sea is a great place to visit. It has different species of sea creatures including sharks and seals and many more. There are even shark and seal feeding sessions. It really is a very interesting place.
For those of us who are more energetic there is surfing in Biarritz, the first place in Europe to have such a sport beginning in 1957. While on the subject of the seaside the spectacular sunsets are not to be missed in Biarritz.
Shopping in Bairritz seems to be mainly in small outlets and they are delightful. I found great shops specializing in great cheeses. The chocolate made here is mouthwateringly marvellous as are the confectionery and cakes. There is a chocolate museum here too!
Food in Biarrritz is spicy evidenced by the drying peppers everywhere in Autumn. The shops sell them in various forms so take some home!
Whatever you choose to do in Biarritz on your holiday you will have a great time. Whichever you choose from the beaches, surfing, golf, spas, fishing, hiking or a flutter at the casino it will be a holiday remembered.
